hale and hearty
Это устоявшееся выражение (set phrase) возникло в XIX в. Hale — северное диалектное слово, означающее «целое», «полное», «значительное». Hearty означает, что у человека здоровое сердце. Таким образом, это сочетание означает здоровый, в хорошей физической форме.

My father is ninety years old today. Apart from a few creaking joints, he is as hale and hearty as a man half his age. — Моему отцу сегодня исполнилось 90 лет. Не считая нескольких скрипящих суставов, он здоров так, словно он вдвое моложе.
